Galactic Brands: Mutant Ape Yacht Club
This week in Galactic Brands, we bring for you the mutant apes! Let’s explore the mutant apes the mutation serum vials, and all the fascination associated with this incredible NFT collection.
A non-fungible token collection, Mutant Ape Yacht Club (MAYC) comprises 20,000 original digital art images and is an outgrowth of the well-known Bored Ape Yacht Club collection.
50% of this exclusive collection was sold at a public auction, while BAYC NFT holders created the remaining pieces by exposing their Bored Apes to the airdropped vial of a Mutant Serum.
Every Mutant Ape produced from an existing Bored Ape has qualities in common with the original and are the mutated variations. And MAYC is also one of the first NFT collections to offer a free, brand-new NFT to an existing group of holders.
A Sneak at MAYC!
An NFT collection of up to 20,000 Mutant Apes is called the Mutant Ape Yacht Club. After BAYC and its sister collection, the Bored Ape Kennel Club, MAYC was the third NFT collection that Yuga Labs released. Being the third collection released, MAYC was originally on BAYC's Roadmap 1.0, ranking second to Bored Ape Yacht Club Membership in terms of importance.
MAYC was planned to reward the ape holders with a new NFT—a "mutant" version of their Ape—while simultaneously allowing new entrants into the BAYC ecosystem at a lower membership tier, as the BAYC team highlighted.
The Release of MAYC
There were two ways to obtain a Mutant Ape NFT initially. First, BAYC holders could purchase Mutant Apes through Yuga Labs' Mutant Serums. Second, on August 28, 2021, a public Dutch auction offered 10,000 MAYC NFTs.
The degens and NFT enthusiasts knew something significant was about to occur, but no one knew for sure what. After then, BAYC tweeted, "MAYC Tomorrow 8/28/21" early on Friday, August 27, 2021. The airdrop of Mutant Serums and the timing for a snapshot were also disclosed. The community was left in the dark but extremely thrilled by BAYC's evasive actions concerning MAYC or Mutant Serums.
The BAYC developers were adamant before the public auction that it should have a fair allocation. BAYC chose a Dutch auction because prominent NFT decreases sometimes result in investors paying exorbitant gas.
MAYC Collection & the Beginning of New Era for Degens!
10,000 mutant ape NFTs were released for mint during the open bidding. The price to mint Mutants began at 3 ETH and decreased steadily until sellout, to a minimum price of 0.01 ETH, according to the Dutch auction mint structure.
Furthermore, they turned the public sale into a "stealth drop" to guarantee a fair distribution. To prevent the larger crypto community, including bots, from appearing armed during the sale, they kept the specifics under wraps until the final moment arrived. The collection still sold out in less than an hour despite the late announcement, generating about $90 million in primary sales.
What distinguishes the Mutant Ape Yacht Club NFTs?
BAYC soon rose to prominence and became one of the most well-known NFT collections when it sold out. According to Yuga Labs, the collection's success was partly due to the passionate community that sprung up around it.
The Yuga Labs team launched MAYC, a new collection inspired by and partly derived from the BAYC collection, to express their gratitude for their community and complete the first stage of their project roadmap.
While MAYC was primarily intended as a reward for current BAYC holders, the project also aimed to integrate newcomers into the BAYC community.
Understanding Scarcity and Serums
Mutant Serums released in three different levels of scarcity, combined with an existing Bored Ape NFT:
- M1
- M2
- M3 (Also the rarest serum)
7,500 M1 serums, 2,492 M2 serums, and only 8 M3 serums are available. After the first 10,000 MAYC NFTs were sold to the general public, BAYC holders could use a smart contract to expose their Bored Ape to a serum vial to create Mutant Apes for free, with a slight gas fee.
Any Bored Ape may be subjected to one M1, M2, or M3 Serum vial. The resulting Mutant Ape has distinctively mutated mutations yet still retains the essential characteristics of the original Bored Ape.
When a Serum is applied to a bored ape, several visual changes occur, including dripping skin, projecting neck growths, misaligned teeth, and bulging eyes. A ripped shirt, green slime spilling from the face, or a monster dressed as a hat are examples of further distinctive characteristics.
All Serum 'vials' are burned after use and can only be used on a Bored Ape once. The mutation that produced the Mutant Ape does not change or affect the holder's original Bored Ape.
The Course of the Mutant Ape NFTs
Given that Mutant Apes are integral to the Bored Ape and Yuga Labs ecosystems, it is simple to understand why these NFTs have grown so valuable. The minimum price of a mutant ape NFT has constantly held above $20,000 for most of the collection's existence, despite having a supply of 20,000.
Naturally, things were sometimes different from this. After MAYC launched in August 2021, the initiative found it challenging to garner considerable traction. The floor price frequently fluctuated between 5 and 7 ETH, just a few ETH more than the tokens initially made accessible through a Dutch auction, until the beginning of 2022.
The Mutant Ape Yacht Club is a distinctive entity that obtains its value not only from its parent firm but also from reasons outside of market conditions, aside from becoming a well-known gainer with connections to Yuga Labs.
Why is MAYC so Well-liked?
For starters, MAYC allowed more NFT aficionados than anticipated to join the Bored Ape community. Sadly, Bored Ape NFTs continue to be expensive and out of reach for the common person, but Kennel Club NFTs and later Mutant Apes have occasionally seen the entry barrier decrease noticeably, opening up new levels of accessibility to the coveted BAYC community.
Bored Apes may have lost ground to Mutant Apes regarding accessibility and appeal among people outside the NFT space. Even people who are only vaguely familiar with Web3 can feel connected to the MAYC brand because many apparel labels and other businesses use Mutant Apes as brand ambassadors.
It's difficult to dismiss MAYC as anything other than a distinctive, ground-breaking, and now historically significant component of the NFT industry. Thanks to these distinctions, the collection will probably continue to be highly regarded in the years to come.
To Sum Up
A wealth of important information about the potential of the NFT collection was revealed in the thorough introduction to MAYC. With the addition of unique Mutant Serum NFTs to conventional Bored Ape NFTs, Mutant Apes are variants of popular BAYC NFTs. Mutant Apes are a helpful resource for anyone to enter the Bored Ape ecosystem with few obstacles.
However, the initial MAYC mint has long since ended, and the only way to get one is through secondary markets. However, the value benefits of Mutant Ape NFTs cannot be disregarded simultaneously. Explore on Komet to discover more about the ecosystem of the Bored Apes and Mutant Apes.
